History of KTMC Library

The establishment of KTMC Library shows very much the insights of the Maryknoll fathers, the founders of KTMC, when they planned the school campus. In the 1970s (it's the time when our school was built), the facility of a library was not a must and it was not included in the so-called standard list of a school. Yet, the Maryknoll fathers had already known the importance of having a resource centre in the school. They had thoughtfully located the library in the heart of the whole school building, that is the second floor of the three-storeyed building, a spot so convenient that it is easy to access from all directions.

It took almost three years for the first teacher librarian to furnish the vacant library and to create a book stock. That was why the library was not put into service as soon as the school began to function. Since there was no funding from the government and the school did not have much financial support for library books, the first collections of books were mainly donations from different organizations, other schools, book dealers and teachers. With merely a few hundred books to start the service in the early days, we now have over ten thousand items available for the users of the library.

For nearly thirty years, the library has been evolving to suit the needs of the students and staff in KTMC. We are confident that the library staff and the student-librarians will continue their mission to provide an inviting place for users to enjoy reading and enhance independent learning in KTMC.
